About Trio Lighting

Who is Trio Lighting?

Trio is a German lighting group with its head office in Voßwinkel, part of Arnsberg. According to the company, it has been active for more than 30 years. The range comprises over 3,750 products, sold in more than 40 countries, under the brands TRIO and Reality. Trio does not sell directly to consumers, but exclusively through retailers.

What is Trio Lighting strong in?

Functional LED lighting for ordinary homes. Of the some 210 Trio lights we stock, over 50 are ceiling lights, over 40 spotlights, over 40 outdoor lights, around forty pendant lights, around twenty floor lamps and around forty table and wall lights combined. Black predominates. Half cost less than €115, the most expensive about €375.

  • Adjustable ceiling spotlights for GU10, with one to four heads, round or square, in matt black, matt white or matt nickel.
  • LED ceiling lights and LED floor lamps such as Salinas, Sorrento and Rondo: almost always 3000 K, often dimmable, with luminous fluxes of around 2,400 to 4,800 lumens.
  • Outdoor lighting in anthracite: wall lights and garden posts with built-in 3000 K LED and IP54, a few with IP65 or with a motion sensor.

What does the 5-year guarantee cover?

Trio gives consumers a 5-year guarantee on lights with built-in LEDs from the TRIO and Reality ranges bought from 1 April 2017 onwards. This guarantee covers the operation of the lighting and the electronics. Trio repairs or replaces a defective light at its own discretion; the replacement does not receive a new guarantee period.

Important to know: LEDs become slightly less bright over the course of their life, and that is normal. Trio therefore measures with the L70/B10 value. This means that the LEDs still give at least 70 per cent of their light, with at most 10 per cent of the modules allowed to fall below that limit. Replaceable bulbs, such as the GU10 spotlights that you fit into a fixture yourself, are not covered by this guarantee.

That makes Trio interesting for places where you leave a light hanging for years without thinking about it: the hallway, the façade, the garage.

What should you look out for with Trio spotlights?

Most Trio ceiling spotlights are fixtures for GU10 bulbs: you choose the bulb yourself, and therefore the colour temperature and the beam. Use the same bulb throughout one room, otherwise you will see a difference in colour between the heads. A four-head spotlight above a kitchen unit needs four bulbs; with a narrower beam (around 24 to 36 degrees) you light the worktop in a targeted way, with a wide beam you light the room. How to distribute spotlights is explained in planning spotlights.

For the bathroom, Trio has a four-head ceiling spotlight with IP44. Which IP rating you need in which zone is explained in bathroom lighting and IP zones.
